Canines Dress-up for Halloween and Charity

'Tis the eve of Halloween and I'm already getting into the spirit.  All month I have had my eye on charitable Halloween activities - from parties to trick or treating, there are some creative ways to give to others while enjoying the candy and treats of the holiday.  Today I heard about this one involving dogs and costumes and I just had to share.

So, I do admit to putting my dog Josie in a costume each year for Halloween, I hadn't heard about  a parade for dogs until now.  And this Halloween parade is special because it gives its proceeds to a local California charity that helps the pooches and their furry friends.

It's the annual Haute Dog Howl'oween Parade in Long Beach.  The day includes contests such as a dog treat stacking contest, bobbing for "Howl'oweenies" contest, even a bulldog kissing contest.  They also have a pet-adoption on-site to find homes for dogs in need of one.

Check out the video to get a glimpse of the fun:

The special day is most known for the parade - which comes with a $15 entry fee - and with its success, this event has proven to be extremely beneficial to the fundraising efforts of Haute Dogs.  Last year, the group tallied an estimated $13,000 for Community Action Team, of which Haute Dogs is a part.  The organization is a nonprofit that does year-round community-building activities that benefit animals, children and the environment.

I wish I lived on the west coast, Josie and I would be there!
