Church helps Homeless "Soles" Stay on Common Ground
Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 10:19PM “Saving souls one sole at a time” is the motto for the Church of the Common Ground’s foot clinic that happens every Monday afternoon at 3pm. From foot massages to bibly study, Common Ground Atlanta is a place of refuge for our city's homeless that provides relief from the streets for a few hours each day of the week.
The Founders, Father Bob Book and his wife Holly began their services on Christmas Eve in 2006; only three people attended the first serve. The very next year, however the congregation had grown to fifty. Today, the church’s community has days where it sees more than 100 members and that number continues to grow.
Throughout the week, the church provides activities and services for the community that range from the practical to the spiritual. Monday is by far the most popular day because of the the foot clinic. Is this special day where people can stop in to have their feet massaged, soaked and are given food and a new pair of socks. The video below shows just how special this service is. Be sure to watch.
Bob and Holly donate all of their time to the Church of the Common Ground and have created a magnificant community that is showing the world and the very people they serve that the homeless are not hopeless.
