Give it Up for GlamourGals Founder: Rachel Doyle

She's been on Oprah.  Perez Hilton has been kind enough to blog about her cause.  And she was named the first ever “Cosmogirl of the Year” by Cosmogirl magazine.   Rachel Doyle is a gal you should know!  And I’m so excited to be able to introduce you to her.  Rachel is the young Founder and President of GlamourGals.  GlamourGals, affectionately known as GG, is a not-for-profit organization that exists to inspire and organize teens to provide ongoing complimentary beauty makeovers to elderly women living in senior homes.   I love how Rachel has created an amazing way to bridge the generations through empowerment and understanding that beauty comes from inside and out.

I recently caught up with Rachel as she was gearing up for GG's 6th Annual Glammy Awards in New York City. We're talking hot pink carpet, makeovers, and gift bags...all true VIP awards show style.  I can hear Julia Roberts' character in Steel Magnolias, Shelby saying, "Pink is my signature color."  It certainly is the GamourGals'.

A busy, glamorous gal herself, Rachel generously gave me some of her time to answer a few questions.  She’s truly an inspiration and a role model for all of us looking to be Living by Giving

Kate:  Why did you start the GlamourGals Foundation?  What was your inspiration?

Rachel:  I started GlamourGals in high school as an idea that would honor the memory of my grandmother.  Now GlamourGals is an organization that captures beautiful, poignant moments that have tremendous meaning for two generations and provides a leadership structure to support those experiences.

KateYou have a big event coming up, the annual “Glammy's.”  Great name by the way.  Tell us a little about what goes on at the Glammy Awards.

Rachel: I am so EXCITED! It is our 6th annual awards!  Parents, volunteers, advisors and special guests are invited to walk the hot pink carpet to honor and recognize the hard work and dedication of our volunteers.  A special presentation is made to recognize extraordinary volunteer efforts with a Glammy Award and everyone leaves with a gift bag (if you have been to our events before YOU KNOW they are awesome!).  Guests have the opportunity to take part in our interactive beauty lounge, with Exuberance Beauty and if they buy any products 50% of the proceeds will go toward GG!

Kate: And you and I both know how important it is to recognize the volunteers.  You do this in a brilliantly fun way.  Let me ask, why is Giving so important to you in your life?

Rachel: I think when you can give something: time, money, ideas, even a compliment it allows you to take a moment and step back and see how lucky you are to be in the position “to give”.

Kate:  Love that.  You are right, giving someone even a compliment can be rewarding.  What advice would you give to someone who is looking to start giving back?  What’s the first step you would tell them to do?

Rachel: Go to www.glamourgals.org and check out “Get involved” or “Events” tabs or facebook.com/glamourgals and like and suggest it to friends!  We would love to welcome more people into our movement!

Kate:  Awesome!  You do have a great website that makes it very easy for people to join your cause and help.  Congrats Rachel on all of your success.  And best of luck to you in the coming weeks as you put the final signature touches on The Glammy’s.

Rachel:  Thanks Kate.  We’ll be sure to share pictures from the event!
